Growing Tree . . . Our Preschool Friends Came for a Visit!

We were recently the hosts for some pretty amazing preschoolers!
Mrs. Kirkpatrick's 3-4 Growing Tree Preschool class came for our Calendar time and for a Science experiment with feathers!
We had SO much fun showing them around our classroom.

Teaching them Ones, Tens, and Hundreds!
It was our 147th day of school. . . today was #152.  But whose keeping track?

2nd Grade Calendar time can be a bit l-o-n-g and boring for 3 and 4 year olds, but the "feathers" activity was very interactive and fun for everyone.
Unfortunately, we don't have pictures of this fun time.
You'll just have to take our word for it!

Multiplication and Secretaries Week. . . what a combination!

We are learning how to multiply: times 2 and 5 come easily.  But who can skip count by 3 or 4 without really concentrating?  We are carefully learning, but it takes work and practice!

We use egg cartons to group our color tiles.  This helps in the calculating and visualizing of the numbers and meaning behind times problems.
We even wrote our own times three word problems!  Awesome 3-wheelers, don't you think?
The classroom gets very quiet when we are working and thinking hard!  Our desks are still arranged in "Achievement Test" fashion.
"Happy Secretary's Day" to our very special Mrs. Crilley!  We LOVE her!  She blesses our day in so many ways!  Secretaries truly are the "Gate-keepers" and she does a terrific job at our school!
We were a little nervous and shy at first. . . but not for long, as you can see!

Thanks for stopping in and enjoying some silliness: 2nd grade style!

Pencil box Beetles. . . and Jesus' Sacrificial Love

Our class is enjoying the "bug" weather which comes with spring. . .  Several students have created homemade pencil box terrariums for their beetle friends.  I would introduce them to you, but I'm not sure of all the names?!?!?  Can you find our tiny friends?

And this would be fruitbreak. . . . one of the TWO times Mrs. Lehman allows for bug friends to be enjoyed during the day.
In Bible, we are reading Scripture and learning stories that portray God's great love for us.
Here are some of the students' "God's Love is. . . . " booklet pages.
I have terrific artists in this class!!  Don't you think?
A local orthodontist is conducting a K-2nd grade coloring contest.  The first place prize is $25!!  This is a great incentive for bringing out the artist in ALL of us.
While writing and illustrating our "Love is. . . " Booklets, we listened to Adventures in Odyssey's: The Imagination Station.  In it, Digger Digwillow travels back to the time of Jesus and witnesses his love, sacrifice, death and resurrection first hand.  The class listened intently as they traveled with Digger, using their own "imaginations"!
Some of the story was sad. . .
and quite serious, for my usually silly bunch.
But they had lots of thinking and concentrating to do!
Thanks for checking in on us!
Have a GREAT weekend!

Field Trip to Shippensburg!

What a BE-A-U-TI-FUL day for a field trip!  Both 2nd grade classes enjoyed their day out in the sun, away from their desks and pencils.  However, we still learned a HEEP of information about the one-room school house, making pizzas and "picturing" the stars at the planetarium.
The school bus ride is always noisy, but oh so fun!

At the Shippensburg Pizza Hut, Mrs. Peckman presented Miss Carole and the restaurant with a photo and plague of the k-2nd grade classes at Shalom.
Look for it the next time you stop into the restaurant!

Students enjoyed finding themselves in the photo.  It was taken last year when they were first graders.

Students also toured the restaurant and created their own one topping personal pan pizzas!  Yummy!
They were also thrilled to know that this counted as their "fruit break."

The One Room Schoolhouse sits on Shippensburg University's campus.  Students sat in the traditional one-room schoolhouse fashion: boys on one side and girls on the other.

Students competed in a traditional "spelling bee," looked at actual textbooks used throughout this schoolhouses' life time, and listened to the school bell ring, which was used long ago to call students to class.
Class of 2023 photo taken on the schoolhouse porch!
What a great group of students!

He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

The Celebration we call Easter;
of Christ's victory over sin and death on our behalf
is a GREAT reason for a party!
These are just a few of our activities throughout the day.
For math class we used jelly beans to try our hand at probability and graphing.

Mmmmmm. . . our afternoon treat!  Thank you room moms!
(Nerd eggs in a rice crispy nest)

We made wordless Jellybean booklets as a craft.  Did you know that the jelly bean was made to remind us of the Easter story?  And the colors all have meanings, too!
Listening to an Easter story. . . the girls. . .

and the line of boys. . . .

They didn't like the camera.  Camera shy?!?!?
Checking out the Resurrection Eggs. . . they are a great way to discuss Easter week with children.

At the end of the day we read and listened to some more Easter stories.

Happy Easter!
He is Risen!  He is Risen Indeed!
He loves us all THIS much!
